Leadership is taken, never given

Leadership is taken, never given

We all have different definitions of leadership – but no matter who you ask, there seems to be a consistent theme with the top leadership qualities that sort the good leaders from the bad! So being the leader of your life, and financial situation, will mean that you will need to step up in the following areas…

Honesty and Integrity
Whether it is being honest with yourself about your relationship with money or keeping your word to those around you, honesty and integrity are two important ingredients which make a good leader. How can you expect your followers (including money) to respond to you when you are not being true to your word?

Confidence
Being an effective leader means finding a harmonious balance between confidence and over confidence. People have faith in those that show self-confidence, but people often do not respond well to people considered to be over confident or arrogant. Always stay humble.

Inspiration
Having a clear and powerful vision that inspires others is the key. It may sound simple, but there is a big difference between being inspired and being inspirational. Being an inspirational leader is what will make others want to follow your lead. Great leaders inspire by setting a good example or as “being a product of the product”. When the going gets tough, people will look up to you and see how you react to the situation. How you handle it, will determine whether people continue to follow you.

Commitment and Passion
Your team (including money) look up to you and if you want them to give them their all, you will need to have passion and commitment. Lead with passion and commitment – and sometimes get in the trenches with your team! When your team see you getting your hands dirty it will engage passion and commitment in them too.

Decisive Action
Great leaders have the ability to make the right decision at the right time. The ability to take decisive action is what sets great leaders apart from good leaders. And once you decide to act – following through is just as important.

Accountability
“A good leader takes little more than his share of the blame and little less than his share of the credit.” Make sure that every one of your team is accountable for what they are doing (including your money, remember it’s about your money working for you, and you not working for your money). Holding people to account and being an accountable leader are both equally important.

Creativity and Innovation
What separates a leader from a follower? Steve Jobs, the greatest visionary of our time said, “Innovation distinguishes between a leader and a follower.” A leader must be creative and innovative at the same time. Creative thinking and constant innovation is what will make you and your team stand out from the crowd. Being creative and innovative with your money is also a huge part about what we teach at OneLife.

Remember leadership is taken, it is never given. So now is the time for you to show up, step up and give back in your own life. Be the leader of your own destiny. Harness these qualities and become an unstoppable force in your own life.
